About Us
Our Story
Doris Cuellar is the founder of Master Dreadlocks Salon & Spa Corp. She is originally from Ecuador and moved to NYC with her son and daughter in search of new and bigger opportunities. After arriving in NYC, the language barrier was a huge obstacle when looking for jobs. Nonetheless, she started working as a distributor for beauty products to salons in Crown Heights.
Witnessing the extraordinary work hairstylists and cosmetologists perform, as well as the happiness and smiles on clients’ faces when they leave the salon, motivated Doris to pursue a career in the beauty industry. Soon after, she enrolled in a cosmetology school and became a licensed cosmetologist in the 2000s. Soon after graduating, she worked in a beauty salon and spa in Flatbush, also providing spa services only. There, she was introduced to a completely new and beautiful culture: dreadlocks. This is where her love and passion for dreadlocks started. As a result, Doris started to learn everything about dreadlocks (the history, how to properly care for locs and scalp), and explore ways to style them.
A few years later, Doris decided to move to another location and rent a chair, where she worked on dreadlocks, braids, hair extensions, and color, exclusively, for over a decade. However, she had bigger dreams. Doris's lifetime goal was to open her salon, unlike any other salon. She wanted her beauty salon to be accessible, affordable, and convenient, but most importantly, focused on the hair, nail, and skin health of all her clients. A safe and enjoyable environment where people can come to relax; a place that will provide all the beauty-related services our clients need and the quality they deserve. This is how Master Dreadlocks Salon & Spa was born.
